Welcome to my world!

I'm a wedding and portrait photographer based in Vancouver with a spirit for travel and adventure! I'm so blessed to do what I'm so passionate about and look forward to sharing it all with you.

I love to have fun with all my couples and capture the authenticity within. I like to play, try new things and create truly inspiring, emotional imagery! As you read through my history and peruse through the images, I hope you feel the energy and vitality that I feel when I'm looking through my lens.

Charlie & Brent - Wedding in Whistler

‘Charlie’ is the full name of the bride I photographed on Valentine’s Day in Whistler.  Charlie Renee to be precise.  A truly unique name for a truly inspiring and unique woman.  Charlie graduated from UCLA with a Masters in Astrophysics (or something close to ‘rocket science’).  She’s not only brilliant academically, she’s one of the most down-to-earth, genuine and caring people I’ve ever met. Her smile is contagious and she laughs with ease.

Here are a couple of details:

Brent is her equal.  Despite the fact that they’re both fiercely competitive, they really do complement one another.  I know Brent went heli-skiing several days before the wedding.  Now THAT takes a lot of bravery!

I met up with Charlie while she was getting ‘beautified’ at the Four Seasons.  It was GREAT to see her again!  Several months ago I was able to head south to Los Angeles where they live for the engagement shoot.  We had so much fun on the beach then that it seemed like no time had passed when I saw her again.

Brenda Bakker is Whistler’s star Make-up and Hair person!  I met Brenda several years ago when she first moved to Vancouver before heading up to Whistler to live full-time.  She’s one of the RARE professionals who will stay with the bride for the majority of her pictures for touch-ups, styling and overall ‘fussing’.  I LOVE Brenda and recommend her to ALL my Whistler/Pemberton brides!  If you’re getting married up there you HAVE to contact brenda at brenda@brendabakker.com!

Once Charlie was in her dress, we headed down to the courtyard where she and Brent were to see each other for the first time.

From there we headed to the trails where snow was STILL covering the ground!  I thought it would be GREAT to get some images of the couple in the snow!  They’re in Whistler after all!  However, I had to keep remembering that they were used to the warmth of Los Angeles…  I tried to hurry as much as possible… but it was so gorgeous!

After getting most of the shots, I hurried them back inside to have drinks with the rest of the bridal party and warm up!  LOVE this shot!

The Best Man did it…..

The ceremony and reception were held at the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre just ‘kitty corner’ to the Four Seasons.  It’s a brand new building and absolutely perfect for Charlie and Brent’s wedding - the high ceilings, glass walls - the perfect setting!  And when the Four Seasons caters, you KNOW the food will be delicious!

Of course the ceremony was romantic against beautiful red velvet!  The minister was Charlie’s uncle.  I NEVER laughed so hard during a ceremony!  He had EVERYONE in hysterics!  But this is a GREAT image…

First dance…..

LOVE this picture of Charlie and her Dad:

I was at the reception until the VERY end!  Charlie and Brent wanted to go out with a bang!  (ok, they were sparklers… but it was FUN!)

I’m sure it’s evident the party wasn’t over then!  They all went back to the Four Seasons for a little ‘after party’ party!  I went back to my room…  After experiencing the reception, I was EXHAUSTED!  Americans REALLY know how to have a good time!  I’ll post those pictures tomorrow!

Boudoir, Baby!

So you’ve probably guessed by now what my ’secret’ project has been…  Boudoir photography! Ever since my first ‘hint’ I’ve had a million calls and this new venture has exploded!  I’m already booked up until April!  Although I’d love to put ALL the images up, out of privacy I can only show you a few.

I can’t tell you how excited I am about capturing the beauty of all women.  We all have such strength, the ability to nurture and empathize and an amazing ability to do it all at once and for everyone.  We also tend to ‘minimalize’ who we are and not give ourselves the credit we deserve or allow ourselves to see our own beauty.

The past few weeks I have been inspired by the incredible women I’ve met of all shapes and sizes.  During their photo session they were like butterflies discovering their wings for the first time.  Discovering their own beauty and owning it!  I have to share a Thank You card I received this week from one of my girls:

Tina

I just wanted to thank you for the photo shoot…  Your amazing work has given me a boost of confidence that my self-conscious mind needed!  I can’t thank you enough for capturing this moment in time that I will enjoy remembering many years from now.  Thank you!

A lot of the women who came to me were single and wanted to do this for themselves.  We had so much fun telling stories and sharing ideas that the actual shoot seemed secondary - icing on the cake!

Well I’m off to get ready for another big day of shooting tomorrow!

Marathon Training Update

This past Sunday I ran 19km.  For those who have not converted to metric yet, that’s almost 12 miles.   Considering I have had trouble with my knees for many years, I found 12 miles quite an accomplishment.  This time I’m doing it ‘right’ though.  I now have a physiotherapist that helps me with my bio-mechanics - alignment, joint/muscle movement and has given me specific exercises to prevent future trouble with my knees.  I also have a full-time Registered Massage Therapist to get out all the knots and loosen super tight muscles (glutes are a major issue right now).  Although this may sound luxurious, trust me when I say, it’s unbelievable torture!  But WOW does it feel good afterwards and running has never felt so GOOD!

Along with running, I’m making sure to do some cross training too.  I’m back at Bikram’s yoga a minimum of twice a week.  This is usually done the day before and the day after my long run.  If you don’t know about Bikram’s yoga, it is done in a very hot room (102 degrees) and it lasts for 90 minutes.  It stretches every major muscle group (and muscles you never knew you had) and helps lubricate joints, including the vertebrae.  Do this for an extended period of time and the muscle tone is incredible!  It’s a cure-all for every ailment too.  AND it does WONDERS for your peace of mind!   I can’t say enough about it and highly recommend to EVERYONE!  (fine print:  please see your doctor before trying it).

Every morning (at least 5 days a week) I’m in the weight room for strength training.  This may sound like a LOT…  and it is.   But I’m actually starting to realize my goal of ‘running a marathon’ - something that has been on my life list for a long time!  May 3 is the BMO Vancouver Marathon and I intend on running in it!

That being said, I have a bunch of other updates to give you and fabulous pictures to show you! (and they’re not pictures of me running…).  I know I’ve been lax of late with my postings so I’ll do my best to give you more in the next few days!

Kirsten & Greg

I know it has been a while but I’ve only recently had a chance to get back to posting.  I’ve been so excited about showing some of Kirsten and Greg images but just haven’t had the chance… until now!  They were married January 10 in one of the coolest little-known restaurants in the city!

They had such a small, intimate wedding so I was with them for a very short period of time.   But I got everything I needed!

Kirsten is a fellow photographer here in Vancouver and I was honoured to capture her wedding.  We had such a great time!   She’s so much like me though - behind the camera we’re confident and know what we want to capture.  In FRONT of the camera, we’re shy and not sure what to do.  We laughed so hard!  But Greg took charge and was amazing in front of camera as he took Kirsten’s attention away from it.

The ceremony was GREAT!

Greg was SO excited!

Look at the smiles!!!  LOVE that!

Here’s a private moment I probably shouldn’t have seen but I caught it anyway.

Thank you Kirsten & Greg for letting me be a part of your day!

Thank You!

I receive a lot of emails every day from people who comment on my work. I love all types of feedback and enjoy reading what people have to say.  I recently received an email from a fellow photographer and I was blown away with what a colleague had to say:

Hey Tina!

My name is Bryan Caporicci, and I am a wedding photographer in Niagara Falls, Ontario. Check out my website at www.bcapphoto.com.

My fiance, Allison, and I are getting married on July 10, 2010, here in Niagara, and we are in the process of looking around for a photographer. What a daunting task! I’m so fricken picky!!

I have to say, though, that after looking at DOZENS of photographers, your work definitely stands out. You do great stuff!

Allison and I were wondering a) if you are available for July 10, 2010, b) what your rates are (generally) and c) if we could set up a get-together to chit-chat some more about everything.

Let me know at your earliest convenience.

Thanks Tina!
Bryan and Al

Needless to say, I’m humbled and overjoyed by Bryan’s unhindered praise.  Unfortunately, I’m already booked for July 10, 2010 and I’m unable to capture him and his beautiful fiancee on their wedding day.  2010 is actually booking up quite quickly!

That being said, anyone who is looking for a FAB photog on the Eastern side of Canada, please check out Bryan’s site -   www.bcapphoto.com…. except if your wedding happens to be on July 10, 2010….

Valentine’s Day is coming fast…

It’s exactly one month from Valentine’s day and there is still time to get that ‘extra something special’ for your man!  I alluded to it earlier and I still have a few spots left.  If you’re intrigued, please drop me a note and I can give you the details…   Let me tell you… he will be THRILLED!…

Back at it!

Alright, so here I go… I’m back on track for marathon training!  I was sitting at my computer one evening and all of a sudden I got up, changed into my running gear and walked out the door.  It also happened to be the windiest day of the month with a  temperature of -5C!  Even I thought I was crazy.

But I had a GREAT run and felt fantastic.  Since then I’ve been out every day with only 2 days off during the week.  Yes, it is cold.  But one thing I’ve learned is that the hardest part of running is putting on your shoes and walking out the door.  Once you start, you warm up quickly!

I also joined a marathon clinic to help with training.  I never thought I would need any help because I used to be a personal trainer many years ago and figured I had the discipline and knowledge to do it on my own.  I had also been running with a partner the past few years who told me I was too slow and didn’t give me the support I needed.  This time I was determined to find a positive influence to help build me back up physically as well as mentally.  I spoke with the people at Running Room and ‘what a difference’!  They were very supportive in regards to my running style and encouraged me to go at my own pace.

This past Sunday was my first 10k with my trainer and a group of other people who are also in “marathon mode”.  My time is definitely not relevant (and rather embarassing) as I’m determined to take it slow and avoid injuries.  We did 10:1 splits (10 minutes running, 1 minute walking).  My trainer is a wealth of information (he’s run a total of 31 marathons!) and I learned more about the process of marathon training that day than I did all last year.   I’m so excited!

I definitely recommend joining a group or clinic whether you’re just starting out or if you’ve been running forever and want to reach new goals.  I never thought I would, but it was a good decision!

Unique Locations

One of my favourite things to do when I have some down time is check out new and cool locations around the lower mainland.  I’ll take my camera and concentrate on one, maybe two areas.  Here’s some I took on a very cold, snowy day not too long ago.

Not sure how this got here…

Now that the snow is melting, everything is looking pretty ugly.  However, I HAVE noticed a few new places that I’ll be checking out in the coming weeks.  I can’t WAIT!

Modern Woman

As I mentioned yesterday, I am doing NEW things this year and I’m starting right away!  I have a top secret project I’m working on and I’m calling all you modern women for a chance to be a part of it!   It’s sexy, it’s fun and it’s for ‘his eyes only’….  Are you fascinated?  Email me right now at tina@tina-graham.com for more details!

Just in time for Valentines Day…

Happy New Year!

It’s a new year so ‘out with the old and in with the new’!  And that includes my Journal.   Don’t'ch’ya just love it?!  I call it my ‘journal’ because everything I write, and the images I show, truly are a part of me and come from my heart.

2009 will be the year of a lot of “firsts” for me.  That is my goal - to do things I’ve never done before, take risks, push my boundaries and be more creative than I’ve ever dared to be.  The first thing that comes to mind when I say this is travel.  Here is a list of ALL the places I want to go:

Cuba
Turks & Caicos
Maldives
Bora Bora
Bali
Thailand
Malaysia
Seychelles
Spain/Portugal
France (Paris, Cannes…)
Belize

These are all I can think of at the moment but if you’re planning a wedding in any exotic, beautiful locale, I already have my cameras packed!

A few of my other Personal Commitments for 2009 are:

- no road raging!  I have no patience with bad drivers but I have to remember I have no control over them, only my own reaction
- eat healthier (smaller portions and less dessert!)
- be tidier
- be more ‘in the moment’
- spend more time with friends!  This is a big one!  I get so wrapped up in work and giving so much to everyone else, that I don’t make time for the people who love me the most.

Whatever your Personal Commitments/New Years Resolutions are, I pray you have the strength to carry them through and keep those promises you’ve made to yourself.  I pray all your wishes come true with all of God’s blessings too!
